It is strictly regulated work, and it can only be legally carried out by an accredited Level 2 ASP.
If your property needs a new mains connection, a private power pole replaced, an underground service line installed, or a defect notice resolved, you need a Level 2 electrician.

These folk went above and beyond to install a replacement stovetop mere days before all our family turned up for our big event! I can’t recommend Hack-it electrical enough. And a big shout out to to Smeg, who replaced the whole induction top under warranty instead of just the part, which would have taken way longer. Top product, Top service, Top electricians.

Damian recently completed extensive works at my new home in Bellingen, updating both lights and electrical's . I found Damian to be both honest, fair and professional with a sincere intent to please the customer, of which I am not the easiest. Despite a number of hiccups Damian remained until all works were completed to satisfaction, maintaining a relaxed and happy disposition which was easy to accommodate. I would definitely return to Damian for any future works and recommend him highly and without hesitation. Thanks Damian

I highly recommend Damo for electrical work. He is honest and up front about the work to be done and does a great job. We had jobs to be done that other electrician’s had previously looked at and said couldn’t be done or didn’t want to do because of the difficulty and Damo went above and beyond with effort and skill to make sure the jobs that we had got done and done right.

Do You Need a Level 2 Electrician?

Not every electrical job requires Level 2 accreditation, but the following situations do. If any of these apply to your property, you will need a licensed ASP before any other work can proceed.

Have you received a defect notice from Essential Energy?

Essential Energy issues defect notices when private infrastructure, most commonly ageing timber power poles, deteriorating mains cables, or non-compliant service connections, is identified as a hazard. The notice is your responsibility to resolve, and the work must be carried out by a Level 2 ASP. Ignoring a defect notice can result in disconnection. We handle these regularly across the Coffs Coast and can manage the process from inspection through to Essential Energy sign-off.

Are you building a new home or shed on a rural property?

New connections to the Essential Energy network require a Level 2 ASP to install the service line, overhead or underground, from the street or pole to your property. This applies to new homes, secondary dwellings, sheds, and rural outbuildings. We coordinate the connection application, carry out the installation, and arrange energisation with Essential Energy.

Is your private power pole ageing, leaning, or damaged?

Private power poles, the poles that sit on your land and are not maintained by Essential Energy, are entirely your responsibility. Many rural properties on the Mid North Coast are still running on timber poles that are thirty, forty, or fifty years old. Rot, termite damage, lean, and failing hardware are common. A failed private pole is an emergency that cuts your power and creates a serious safety hazard. We carry out private pole inspections, replacements, and new installations across the region.

Are you upgrading to three-phase or increasing your mains capacity?

Properties moving from single-phase to three-phase supply, or upgrading from an undersized mains cable, require Level 2 work to upgrade the service connection at the point of attachment. This is a common requirement on the Mid North Coast, where many older rural homes still run on 6mm mains cables that are no longer adequate for modern loads.

Are you disconnecting power for a demolition, renovation, or sale?

Permanent disconnections and temporary supply arrangements for building projects require a Level 2 ASP. We handle disconnections cleanly and coordinate reconnections once work is complete.

Working With Essential Energy

Level 2 ASP work involves direct coordination with Essential Energy, the network operator for the Mid North Coast. Applications, notifications, inspections, and energisation requests all pass through the network. As an accredited ASP, Hack-It Electrical manages this process on your behalf, you do not need to deal with Essential Energy directly.

For most jobs, the process is straightforward: we assess the work, lodge the necessary applications, carry out the installation, arrange an Essential Energy inspection where required, and manage energisation. For defect notices, we work to the compliance timeframe set out in the notice and communicate clearly with you at each stage.

Level 2 ASP Services — What We Cover

Consumer Mains Rewiring

The consumer mains cable runs from Essential Energy’s service fuse at the point of attachment to your main switchboard. On older properties this cable is often undersized, deteriorating, or no longer compliant. We replace consumer mains cables to current standards, improving both safety and capacity for modern electrical loads.

Overhead Service Line Installation and Repair

Overhead service lines connect the street network to your property via the point of attachment on your roof or external wall. We install, replace, and repair overhead service lines for new connections, upgrades, and defect resolution across residential and rural properties.

Underground Service Line Installation

Underground mains connections are increasingly preferred on new builds and rural properties for both aesthetics and resilience. We design and install underground service lines from the network connection point to your property, coordinating all required approvals and notifications with Essential Energy.

Private Power Pole Installation and Replacement

Private power poles carry the overhead service line across your land when the street connection point is not adjacent to your property. Timber poles have a finite lifespan and many in this region are well past it. We supply and install both timber and galvanised steel private poles, carry out structural inspections, and replace poles identified on Essential Energy defect notices. If your pole is failing, do not wait, it is a safety issue and a disconnection risk.

Service Fuse Repair and Replacement

The service fuse is the first point of overcurrent protection between the Essential Energy network and your property. Faults here result in complete loss of supply and require immediate Level 2 attendance. We carry out service fuse repairs and replacements as emergency callouts across the Coffs Coast.

Metering and Energisation

We install and remove metering equipment and manage energisation of new connections in coordination with Essential Energy and your chosen electricity retailer. This includes new builds, secondary dwellings, subdivisions, and properties transitioning to smart metering.

Defect Notice Resolution

If Essential Energy has issued a defect notice on your property, we will assess the work required, provide a clear scope and quote, carry out the Level 2 work, and lodge the necessary documentation with Essential Energy to have the notice cleared. We take care of the paperwork so you are not left navigating the network compliance process alone.

Disconnect and Reconnect

Temporary and permanent disconnections for demolitions, major renovations, property sales, and building projects. We coordinate with Essential Energy on scheduling and handle all required notifications.

Level 2 Electrician FAQs

Find answers to common questions about our services, safety standards, and what to expect when working with our team.

A Level 2 Accredited Service Provider (ASP) is an electrician who holds additional accreditation from the NSW network operator to carry out work on the service infrastructure connecting a property to the Essential Energy network. This includes consumer mains, service lines, metering, and private power poles. Standard licensed electricians cannot legally carry out Level 2 work.

If the work involves the connection between your property and the Essential Energy network, including the mains cable, the service line, the point of attachment, a private power pole, or metering equipment, you need a Level 2 ASP. If you have received a defect notice from Essential Energy, a Level 2 ASP is required to resolve it.

Contact us as soon as possible. Defect notices come with a compliance deadline and Essential Energy can disconnect supply if the work is not completed in time. We will assess the work required, provide a quote, carry out the Level 2 work, and lodge the completion documentation with Essential Energy to have the notice cleared.

Timeframes vary depending on Essential Energy’s scheduling for network connection points and inspections. For straightforward residential connections, the process typically takes two to four weeks from application to energisation. We will give you a realistic timeframe at the assessment stage and keep you updated throughout.

Essential Energy owns and maintains the poles on the road verge and along the street network. Any pole that sits on private land, carrying the service line from the street network to your home or across your property, is a private power pole and is entirely your responsibility to maintain. If it fails or is identified as unsafe, you are responsible for the repair or replacement.
