New Installations

Older emergency lighting systems, particularly those using fluorescent or incandescent fittings, can be upgraded to modern LED units that offer longer battery life, lower maintenance requirements, and better illumination. The Standard — AS 2293
All emergency lighting in Australia is governed by AS 2293, Emergency escape lighting and exit signs for buildings. The standard covers:
- Minimum illumination levels along escape routes
- Placement and spacing of emergency and exit fittings
- Battery duration requirements (minimum 90 minutes)
- Testing frequency, functional test every six months, full discharge test annually
- Record keeping requirements
